Charitable Impact

Philanthropy can be taught in many ways. For children and youth, it can be taught right where learning happens: in school.

For the elementary school students at Vancouver Hebrew Academy (VHA), being charitable is one of the most important concepts taught throughout their curriculum. Their vision is to inspire all students who walk through its doors to become active members of their communities and to give back when they can.

VHA prides itself on being an important component of the rapidly growing Orthodox Jewish Community in Vancouver, connecting Jewish families and their children with a rich curriculum that inspires a lifelong passion for learning and philanthropy.

While VHA is a valued educational institution in the Vancouver Jewish community, the effects that it has on its students extend beyond their own community.

Judy Boxer-Zack, Community Partnerships lead here at Chimp, is a former student of the VHA. As an alumnus, she experienced first-hand how the school taught her what it means to be philanthropic, and how it strives to do the same of their students.

Aside from being a part of the VHA community, the school taught her that the broader community was family as well. Everyone who visited VHA were welcomed and treated with respect, dignity, and inclusiveness. Whether it was a visiting scholar, new family, or individual from a different religious or cultural background, they were all a part of the family.

“We were also taught to think beyond the walls of our school and to feel we belonged to something larger and were accountable for more than just ourselves.”

VHA is a fantastic example of how educational institutions can educate and empower next generation philanthropy. Discover their vision and support their efforts by visiting their Chimp Giving Group Page. Each contribution will be matched dollar by a generous donor.
