On June 24, 600 cheering spectators were treated to a sight not often seen in Vancouver tech circles: their fearless (and fearsome) colleagues decked out in spandex, sequins and satin on stage to showcase their not-so-hidden talents.

Nineteen tech companies and their supporters gathered at Fivesixty Nightclub to lip synch their hearts out and raise funds for children’s charities close to their hearts.

The result was Tech’s Got Talent — an evening of musical marvel hosted by Plenty of Fish and Chimp, involving costumes, choreography and general on-stage shenanigans, the likes of which were described as both epic and hilariously awesome.

Thanks to the generosity of all the participants and supporters, Tech’s Got Talent raised $50,000 for children’s charities!

Event Recap

Host Scott Patey got the ball rolling with introductions to the panel of celebrity judges including Masterchef Canada Winner David Jorge, Real Housewives of Vancouver cast member Robin Reichman and CTV News Anchor Jason Pires.

Then, it was go time for the pumped-up participants, starting with a couple of commendable solo acts from Build Direct and Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. A plethora of memorable group performances followed, ranging from Hootsuite’s massive mashup ensemble with its multiple wardrobe changes, to Broadband TV’s booty-shaking TLC tribute, to Traction on Demand’s slinky bodysuits for Blurred Lines.

The evening wrapped up with a lightening round of the top three performances by Mobify, Hootsuite and Plenty of Fish.

And the Winners Are…

Congrats to Mobify for taking home the top prize trophy and $2,500 for its charity of choice: RainCity Housing.

Second place went to Hootsuite, with $1,500 for its charity of choice: Motionball Canada.

Plenty of Fish rounded out the winner’s circle with $500 for its charity of choice: the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Thank You!

To everyone who performed, who gave to their favourite children’s charity, who bought a ticket to support their colleagues, and who came out for an evening they won’t soon forget (and sights that can never be unseen), we thank you!

The strength of the tech sector is abundantly clear at events like these, and despite the glitz and glitter of the performances, what shone most brightly was the true spirit of charity in every participant.
