What is mental health?
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.
Every year, 1 in 5 people within Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness. Which means that even if you are not directly affected, someone you love is likely to be. Despite the scale of the issue, we still struggle to talk openly about mental health, or know how to support those who live with mental health problems.
There are a number of great Canadian charities that work tirelessly to support those living with mental health issues. Here are a few of the top mental health charities you can support using CHIMP:
Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)
The Canadian Mental Health Association provide support to over 1.3 million Canadians each year, thanks to the efforts of 11,000 volunteers and staff. They offer a wide range of services and provide support to those living with experiencing mental illness, and their families.
