If you are an animal lover like everyone here at CHIMP, then you might be interested to know that today is World Animal Day! It’s a day when animal lovers from all over the world come together to campaign against cruelty and raise awareness of how we can make the world a fairer place for all living creatures.
Within Canada, there a number of great organizations with a mission to protect animals, provide education, and improve welfare. If you are looking to support one for World Animal Day, then here are a few suggestions:
The BC SPCA work tirelessly to protect animals and enhance their quality of life. They are the largest animal welfare organization of their kind in North America and the largest animal sheltering society in the world. In total, they assist more than 48,000 animals in need every year.
World Society for the Protection of Animals
The World Society for the Protection of Animals carries out programs that promote the protection of animals, prevent animal cruelty and relieve suffering in Canada and overseas. They also organize educational programs to increase awareness and encourage respect for animals.
Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society works to protect Canada’s wilderness. By protecting large areas of land and freshwater lakes, they are helping species such as grizzly bears, woodland caribou and wolverine to thrive in their natural habitat.
The Ontario SPCA is one of the largest, most responsive animal welfare organizations in Canada. They provide care and shelter to tens-of-thousands of animals every year. They also work with communities to encourage humane and suitable care.
