Megaphone is a high-quality magazine sold on the streets of Vancouver and Victoria by homeless and low-income vendors. Published monthly by the not-for-profit Street Corner Media Foundation, vendors buy the magazine for 75 cents and sell it for $2, keeping the profit.
Megaphone has more than 40 vendors selling the magazine. Many of the vendors struggle with various barriers—homelessness, addiction or a mental illness. Selling the paper gives the vendors a voice in their community and raises their self-esteem.
Your Donation Helps:
Pay for training sessions that gives vendors the skills and knowledge to sell the magazine and earn an income.
Vendor gear (jackets, hats, bags) that keeps the vendors dry and warm and helps brand them to the public, helping them sell more magazines.
Writing workshop classes for vendors, so they can write their own stories in the magazine.
Printing costs, which helps publish this award-winning magazine.
