Options For Sexual Health
Other Names: Opt BC, Opt, Planned Parenthood Association of British Columbia
At Opt we care about the healthy sexuality of all British Columbians. We offer sexual and reproductive health care, information, and education from a feminist, pro-choice, sex positive perspective. Based in British Columbia, Options for Sexual Health (Options) is Canada's largest non-profit provider of sexual health services through clinics, advocacy, education programs, and the 1-800 SEX SENSE information and referral line. Options has been supporting healthy sexuality in British Columbia since 1961 initially under the name the Family Planning Association of BC and then Planned Parenthood of BC. We changed our name in 2003 to reflect the fact that we provide sexual and reproductive health care and education to people of all ages, all genders, and all orientations all over BC. Our Clinic Services Options operates over 60 sexual and reproductive health clinics across BC, which are supervised by nurses, with clinical and medical support from physicians and client support from volunteers. Last year, Options clinics helped over 25,000 clients receive non-judgmental birth control counselling and supplies, STI and PAP testing, pregnancy options counselling, and general sexual health information. Our Education Programs Options offers education and professional training programs with certified sexual health educators located throughout the province. Last year, over 24,000 youth, parents, teachers, volunteers, children, and others working in school or health settings were participants in Option's sexual health education programs, specially tailored for each audience. Some of the common topics covered include sexual decision-making and boundary-setting, becoming an 'askable adult', body science, and safer sex. Additionally, Options operates the 1-800 Sex Sense Line a part of the BC HealthLink family. It is a toll-free telephone line and email service which offers sexual and reproductive health information and referrals Monday to Friday, 9am-9pm. Last year, the Sex Sense Line responded to over 13,000 calls and emails.
