The primary purpose of the University of Manitoba is to provide post-secondary education to the student body. In 2017/2018 there were 25,065 undergraduate students and 3,721 graduate students. These students were enrolled in over 100 programs, many of which have graduate studies leading to masters and doctoral degrees. There are currently 21 different faculties and colleges offering these academic programs. Research is also an area that encompasses numerous different programs. The University is home to, or a partner in, numerous research centres, institutes, and shared facilities that foster collaborative research and scholarship. The University ranks among the top research universities in Canada, and is the only reseach intensive university in Manitoba. Finally, there are numerous programs in athletics, community involvement, fundraising, extended education, and collaborative efforts with business and industry.
