Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Canada's mission is to safeguard wildlife and wild lands in Canada through science, conservation action, and by inspiring people to value nature. We fill urgent conservation science gaps and deliver ambitious conservation objectives across the country. We leverage our efforts through collaborative work with others. We are the only national environmental organization generating and using science to directly inform and define large-scale wildlife and conservation initiatives. WCS Canada has the 120 legacy of sister programs of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)-working in 65 countries-behind us. In Canada we are an independent organization since 2004. WCS Canada leads wildlife-related field research in Canada, including Arctic marine mammals, lake sturgeon, caribou, bison, bats, wolverine, boreal birds and river otter. WCS Canada fills the urgent gap in science-based research that is not being addressed by other national conservation organizations. We convene members of the scientific community and the public, build bridges between academic scientists and our conservation partners, and strengthen the science capacity of the conservation movement by offering Fellowships to young conservation scientists and by supporting the advocacy and actions of others. WCS Canada partners with WCS on important international conservation projects around the world such as turtles, tigers and coral reefs.
