The Group's Purpose

Help our sponsorship group (UVic Political Science community and friends) to save a refugee family.

Based on mounting worldwide needs and the urgent calls of the UNHCR, our group decided to participate in the Blended Visa Office-Referred ( BVOR ) Program that matches refugees identified for resettlement by the United Nations Refugee Agency ( UNHCR ) with private sponsors in Canada. The Government of Canada provides up to six months of income support and we have to come up with the other half in order to support a refugee family for one year. Our goal is to raise 30,000.00 CAD.

How to Help

Please help us to co-fund the first year of resettlement to Victoria. Our chores will be to find and set up a new home and to support the family in addressing daily challenges (language, school, work, health, social and cultural integration) in order for them to start a new life in Canada.

"An unprecedented 68.5 million people around the world have been forced from home. Among them are nearly 25.4 million refugees, over half of whom are under the age of 18." https://www.unhcr.org/figures-at-a-glance.html

Help us to save a few lives.

All donations made through CHIMP are legally made to CHIMP: Charitable Impact Foundation (Canada), and the tax receipt is issued by the foundation. As a public foundation, CHIMP Foundation then sends your gift to the charity you've chosen. In our case it's the Inter Cultural Association of Greater Victoria.

About the Organizers

We are a community of people affiliated with the Department of Political Science at the University of Victoria (student, staff, faculty, retirees) and some professionals or retirees from Victoria. We started the group after an urgent call of the UNHCR at an event of the Inter Cultural Association of Greater Victoria.
