The Group's Purpose

Every day, over half a million students in Uganda alone walk over 5km both to and from school to attain an education. However, once these students have arrived at school, they are often too hungry to learn and the curriculum not adequate. The Walking School Bus aims to support those students across all three areas: access, nutrition and curriculum.

Walk with us on May 28th to gain a better understanding of the barriers millions of students face when accessing their education, while helping us achieve our AIM of empowering access through literacy by raising much needed funds to build two classrooms in rural Uganda this summer. Register, donate or start your own fundraising team today.

This year's theme is "Access Through Literacy."
We're proud to be furthering access through SiMBi - our reading app as well as our off grid SiMBi Classrooms.

Why literacy matters: "A child born to a mother who can read is 50% more likely to survive past age 5." - UNESCO

Funds raised from this year’s walk will support one of our exciting new initiatives: the construction of 2 classrooms in Putti Village, located near Mbale in Uganda. The classrooms will be constructed by our TWSB team in collaboration with Putti village leaders.

Many children take the most unimaginable and incredible routes to school in order to receive the education some of us may take for granted - but for many it's a hard won victory. According to UNESCO, 26.3 million children don't go to school because of the distance to and from school.

We can help facilitate the goal of educating children around the world thus creating a better future by finding a way to send them to school. Let's start in Uganda: one classroom at a time.
