5 ways to give back this Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and for many of us this holiday means spending quality time with family and friends, whilst enjoying lots of delicious food! However, Thanksgiving is also a great time to think about how you can have an impact, give back to your community and support the causes you care about.

Here are some ways you can make a difference this Thanksgiving:

1 – Volunteer your time

Volunteering your time is a great way to give back to the causes you care about. Thanksgiving marks one of the busiest volunteer days of the year, especially for food banks and soup kitchens. However, it’s still a great time to volunteer to the causes that matter most to you. Instead of volunteering for the day, explore how you could fit volunteering into part of your weekly routine.

2 – Look out for others in your community

Take the time to check in with those in your community that may need some support this Thanksgiving. Whether it’s an elderly neighbour, or a person who may be spending the holidays alone, reach out to them and see if they’d like to join you for the festivities, or maybe even take them a slice of pie!

3 – Make a food donation

Many food bank organizations and meal programs provide a Thanksgiving dinner for those living with food insecurity. You can help by donating food to make sure everyone gets a hot meal. Donations of other goods such as personal hygiene products, bathroom tissue and baby food are also a great way to help!

4 – Educate your children

It’s never too early to inspire the charitable spirit! Take the time to talk to your children about good causes and how they can have an impact. Involve them if your volunteering activities to show them how good it feels to give, and empower them to make a positive difference to the lives of others.
